    ARMENIA: House of Cinema, Yerevan

The House of Cinema in Yerevan

The Yerevan House of Cinema was built in 1974. It is the property of the Union of Film Professionals of Armenia, successor of the Union of Filmmakers of Armenia, founded in 1953, which  unites around 200 film professionals – directors, producers, cinematographers, actors, production designers, animators etc.

The House of Cinema was completely renovated in 2018. It has three screenings halls – the Great Hall, which is Armenia’s largest cinema hall with 500 seats, the Small Hall with 120 seats, and another hall with 80 seats. The building is included in Armenia’s list of cultural monuments. This is also where the legendary Fireplace Hall is located, where one can spend a pleasant time enjoying coffee or tea, discussing films, while also using it as a co-working space.

The House of Cinema has a vibrant and filmic atmosphere. Preserved here is the famous wall of signatures left by dozens of filmmakers and cultural figures from Wim Wenders to Costa-Gavras, the Dardenne Brothers, Aram Khachaturian, William Saroyan and others.

The halls have preserved their original design and architectural solutions. They have excellent acoustics, modern projection and sound systems for film screenings, namely a DCP projector, 5.1 Dolby sound system, modern heating, cooling and ventilation systems. They are located in the heart of Yerevan and are very close to the tourist and transportation hubs, such as Republic Square, the National Gallery, the History Museum of Armenia etc.

The building also houses the Armenian Cinema History Museum – the National Cinematheque.
