The Irish-English actor Michael Gambon has died at the age of 82.
Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1940, he made his acting debut in 1962 and quickly became famous for his performances in Shakespeare productions. His first screen role was in Laurence Olivier’s 1965 OTHELLO with Maggie Smith and Derek Jacobi. He also worked with Peter Greenaway in THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE AND HER LOVER (1989), with Michael Mann in THE INSIDER, and with Robert Altman in GOSFORD PARK. In 2007, he received a Silver Bear at the BERLINALE for THE GOOD SHEPHERD. He also won four BAFTA TV Awards and in 2017 a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Film and Television Awards.
He is, of course, best-known, and forever unforgettable as Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter film series.
