MONTENEGRO: Cultural Centre Nikola Đurković, Kotor

Cultural Centre Nikola Đurković in Kotor

Based in the city of Kotor, on the Adriatic coast, the Municipal Cultural Centre Nikola Đurković is dedicated to organizing and enhancing the cultural life of the community. It focuses on hosting traditional ethno-cultural events, promoting creativity, and encouraging the involvement of amateurs, marginalized groups, and people with disabilities in the cultural life of the country. The centre consists of four separate organizational units: a theatre, the city gallery, Boka cinema, and the city library and reading room. Their most notable events include Boka Night, the traditional Kotor winter carnival, the Festival of Light, December Rocks, and the Kotor Children’s Theatre Festival. Boka Cinema is located in the former Church of Our Lady of the Angels, which, since the Austro-Hungarian period, ceased to function as a church and was re-purposed as a military building before becoming one of the oldest cinemas in the region.

Equipped with a Dolby stereo system and new seating, it is now one of the three most modern cinemas in Montenegro. Following equipment upgrades, the cinema has become an even better venue for film screenings, as well as for lectures, literary evenings, seminars, and other events.
