    MONTENEGRO: Cultural Centre, Pljevlja

    Cultural Centre in Pljevlja

The current building of the House of Culture was constructed in 1948, during the reconstruction of the country, with the help of youth labour and volunteer work actions. At the time it was built, with its spatial comfort and functionality, it was considered one of the most beautiful and best-equipped cultural facilities in Montenegro, designed for various cultural activities. The origins of theatre activity in Pljevlja date back to 1899, in the form of early, underdeveloped stage performances, which were irregularly organized by amateur groups. The drama sections of the societies Bratstvo and Gajret, operating on an amateur basis, planted the seeds of theatrical culture among the local population. A National Professional Theater was established in the post-war period, in 1949.The former Cultural Centre underwent a complete reconstruction and was re-opened in 2018, 70 years after its original construction.

In 2021, the municipality of Pljevlja founded the Cultural Centre Pljevlja.
