NETHERLANDS: Lumière, Maastricht
Lumière Cinema is Maastricht’s heart of film. Here, you can catch the latest arthouse films, dive into the most captivating movies and documentaries with their creators, or re-live a classic on the big screen. Lumière is not your average cinema. Alongside our regular program, we host a variety of special activities, festivals, and events, often in collaboration with cultural and social organizations. This dedication was recognised in 2024 when Lumière was proudly named Best Arthouse Cinema of the Year by ICTA.
With over 300 films a year, there’s plenty to choose from. Whether you’re a true cinephile looking for independent gems, or just want to drop by to see that much-talked-about Oscar winner, Lumière has it all. Plus, you can stop by our cozy café for a quick bite before or after the film or enjoy a drink late into the evening. If the sun’s shining, our waterfront terrace is the perfect spot to soak up the good weather.
Since September 2016, Lumière has been located in a stunning new building in the Sphinx Quarter. This national monument, originally built in 1910, used to be an electricity plant for the local industry. The original atmosphere of the plant—now the café—has been preserved with the retention of its original materials and details.
