The Quiet Man Museum (Cong, Ireland)

THE QUIET MAN movie is one of Ireland’s cinematic gems. Having won two Oscars in 1952, it is an enduring classic. It is watched, as a tradition, by people of Irish ancestry and is a calling card to many to visit their homeland. To them, Ireland is THE QUIET MAN. It is all they have experienced of Ireland until they make the pilgrimage home.

    The Quiet Man Museum

As natives of the village in the west of Ireland where the movie was filmed, father and daughter team, Gerry & Lisa Collins welcome these pilgrims to Cong on the borders of Counties Mayo and Galway. At age twelve, under her father’s tuition, Lisa started to bring Quiet Man enthusiasts on guided tours of the original film locations. Together, Gerry & Lisa, have gathered the stories of what happened when Cong was shot to stardom and forever immortalised on the silver screen. Over 30 years later, the story telling is still going strong, with Gerry proclaiming he has been blessed to have found his ideal job – meeting like-minded “Quiet Man Crazies” (as they are affectionately known in the village) and sharing with them his passion for the movie! With his wife, Margaret, the family opened The Quiet Man Museum as a visitor attraction for Quiet Man enthusiasts, which showcases original film artefacts.
