    Mourning Wolfgang Becker

    German director Wolfgang Becker passed away at the age of 70.

    After studying German, History and American Studies, Wolfgang Becker switched to studying Film at the DFFB in Berlin. His graduation film SCHMETTERLINGE (Butterflies, 1988) already received international attention and won the Golden Leopard in Locarno.

    Together with directors Tom Tykwer and Dani Levy, and producer Stefan Arndt, he founded X-Filme and shot LIFE IS ALL YOU GET which premiered 1997 at the Berlinale.

    His biggest success was GOOD BYE LENIN! (2003) with Daniel Brühl and Katrin Sass which was a big international audience hit and received numerous prizes, among them nine German Lolas, a French César, a Spanish Goya and six European Film Awards – Film, Actor and Screenwriter, as well as three People’s Choice Awards (for European Director, Actress and Actor). This was followed by various other films, among them ME AND KAMINSKI (2015), again with Daniel Brühl in the lead.

    Wolfgang Becker died on Thursday, 12 December. We will miss him.
