    THE NEW ACADEMY BOARD MEMBERS 

    80% of the Board members are women 

    The latest elections for the Board of the European Film Academy have resulted in four new incoming members; two Board members have been re-elected. It now consists of 15 members representing 14 regions, plus one seat allocated for European transnational populations, including Sámi and Roma filmmakers. The Chair and Deputy Chairs do not represent specific regions.

    The newly elected Board members began their terms on 1 January 2025, and serve until 31 December 2026.  

    The roles and responsibilities of the Board members have been established by the current Board. Candidates for the Board elections must fulfil the criteria to be eligible, following the Diversity and Inclusion standards as international good governance standards, ensuring transparency in the decision-making processes within the Academy. 

    The Board of the European Film Academy meets thrice yearly for a formal Board meeting.

    Honorary members of the Board are István Szabó (Hungary) and Sir Ben Kingsley (UK). 

    The President of the European Film Academy is traditionally given to an outstanding senior European filmmaker appointed by the Board and confirmed by election through the voting members. Ingmar Bergman was the first President since the founding years of the European Film Academy (1989-1996), followed by Wim Wenders (2006-2020) and Agnieszka Holland (2021-2024). Since her election in May 2024, the current President of the Academy has been Juliette Binoche.
