    EURIMAGES INTERNATIONAL CO-PRODUCTION AWARD goes to Labina Mitevska 

    Macedonian producer and actress Labina Mitevska will be awarded with this year’s EURIMAGES INTERNATIONAL CO-PRODUCTION AWARD by Eurimages and the European Film Academy. Labina Mitevska is one of the founders of the family-run production company Sisters and Brother Mitevski Production based in Skopje, North Macedonia.

    The siblings Labina, Teona and Vuk successfully launched their company in 2001. Labina is a highly acclaimed actress from the Balkan region, starting her career in Milčo Mančevski’s BEFORE THE RAIN (1994), awarded with the Golden Lion in Venice and nominated for an Academy Award©. At Sisters and Brother Mitevski Labina is managing director and producer, her sister Teona is director and her brother Vuk, a painter and sculptor, is working as set designer and animator.  

    The jury says: “This prize is awarded to Labina Mitevska as a tribute to the talent of a family business passionately dedicated to European cinema. It rewards the craftmanship of high-quality independent cinema achieved through numerous outstanding international co-productions that are the pride of the Eurimages Fund. 

    The EURIMAGES INTERNATIONAL CO-PRODUCTION AWARD is presented by the European Film Academy in co-operation with Eurimages, the cultural support fund of the Council of Europe. It acknowledges the decisive role of co-productions in fostering international exchange.  

    Sisters and Brother Mitevski’s films include their very first film VETA (2001), a short film which received the Special Jury award at the Berlin International Film Festival followed by HOW I KILLED A SAINT (KAKO UBIV SVETEC, 2004) their first feature film, which premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and won numerous further prizes including the Crossing Europe Award – Competition Fiction at the Crossing Europe Film Festival in Linz, Austria. 

    I AM FROM TITOV VELES (JAS SUM OD TITOV VELES, 2007) was invited to Berlin International Film Festival, Sarajevo Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival and the ACID Selection of the Cannes Film Festival as well as 80 more festivals. It has been released in 15 countries and won over 20 awards. THE WOMAN WHO BRUSHED OFF HER TEARS (2012) with Victoria Abril made its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival and was shown at more than 40 international film festivals. WHEN THE DAY HAD NO NAME (KOGA DENO NEMASE IME, 2017) also premiered in Berlin as well as GOD EXISTS, HER NAME IS PETRUNYA (GOSPOD POSTOI, IMETO I’ E PETRUNIJA, 2019), where it won the Ecumenical Jury Prize followed by another 30 international awards – including the European Parliament’s LUX Audience Award 2019. THE HAPPIEST MAN IN THE WORLD (NAJSREЌNIOT ČOVEK NA SVETOT, 2022) premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival and has won more than a dozen international awards. 21 DAYS UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD (2023) is the company’s latest film premiering at last year’s Venice International Film Festival. In 2024 Labina Mitevska is currently working on SKATEBOARDING IS NOT FOR GIRLS (SKEJTANJETO NE E ZA DEVOJCINJA, 2024) by Dina Duna developed at Cannes Cinéfondation and MOTHER (2024), her sister Teona Strugar Mitevska’s new film with Noomi Rapace.  

    Labina Mitevska has co-produced nine films with Eurimages’ support, six of which as a majority producer: I AM FROM TITOV VELES, THE WOMAN WHO BRUSHED OFF HER TEARS, WHEN THE DAY HAD NO NAME, GOD EXISTS, HER NAME IS PETRUNYA, THE HAPPIEST MAN IN THE WORLD, SKATEBOARDING IS NOT FOR GIRLS. As minority co-producer she was involved in Eurimages funded SIERANEVADA by Cristi Puiu, THE WILD PEAR TREE by Nuri Bilge Ceylan and MAY LABOR DAY by Pjer Zalica.  

    Labina Mitevska is member of the European Film Academy and EAVE national representative. In 2014 she was part of “Producers on the Move” by EFP at the Cannes Film Festival. Since 2022, Labina is part of the producer team of the Belgian film company Entre Chien et Loup. 

    Labina Mitevska will be an honorary guest of the gala for the 37th European Film Awards on 7 December in Lucerne to receive her award in person.
