Accreditation to the European Film Awards is limited to people who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or who have recovered after a Covid-19 infection – provided they do not show typical Covid-19 symptoms.

A proof of vaccination or recovery must be digitally verifiable with an EU Digital COVID Certificate – printed QR codes are also digitally verifiable.

The mask requirement and the requirement to maintain a minimum distance will then no longer apply indoors.

By submitting the accreditation form, the media representative accepts and agrees to the following:

The entered and transmitted personal data will be stored in the European Film Academy database and used to contact you in connection with the accreditation process and for information purposes concerning the European Film Awards.

Representative’s name, media outlet and country may be passed on to other accredited media representatives, to our partners, sponsors and funding institutions, as well as to the agents of the nominees and winners of the European Film Awards. Furthermore, this information may be stored in order to fulfill our reporting obligations to the funding institutions and for other statistical evaluation.

Other personal data will be deleted as soon as the purpose for retaining such data ceases to apply, i.e. four weeks after the European Film Awards took place. Notwithstanding the generality of the foregoing, data may be stored if required by Union of Member State law to which we are subject.

Data will also be blocked or deleted if a retention period prescribed by laws and regulations expires, unless there is a need for further storage of the data for the conclusion of fulfillment of a contract.

Here come the nominees for LUX – The European Audience Film Award 2025

ANIMAL, DAHOMEY, FLOW, INTERCEPTED and JULIE KEEPS QUIET have been shortlisted for the 2025 Lux European Audience Film Award.

The European Film Academy reveals the nominations for LUX – The European Audience Film Award, presented by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas. The five shortlisted films were announced today during an announcement event at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

These are the five nominated films:

ANIMAL directed by Sofia Exarchou (Greece, Austria, Romania, Cyprus, Bulgaria)
DAHOMEY directed by Mati Diop (France, Senegal, Benin)
FLOW directed by Gints Zilbalodis (Latvia, France, Belgium)
INTERCEPTED directed by Oksana Karpovych (Canada, France, Ukraine)
JULIE KEEPS QUIET directed by Leonardo van Dijl (Belgium, Sweden)

Next steps

The winner of the LUX Audience Award is chosen jointly by citizens across the EU and by MEPs. A platform to rate the nominated films will be open from 18 September until April 2025. The winner will be announced in April 2025 at a ceremony in the European Parliament in Brussels, in the presence of the representatives of the finalist films. Between September 2024 and April 2025, screenings and debates about the films will be organised by the Parliament together with MEPs.

Background

Since 2020, the LUX Audience Award has been awarded by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in partnership with the European Commission and the Europa Cinemas network. It fosters dialogue and engagement between politics and the public through the medium of film. The nominated films address European values and raise awareness about some of today’s main social and political issues such as mental health, poverty, climate change, freedom of expression, gender equality, LGBTIQ+ rights.

During the competition period, the European Parliament organises free screenings across the 27 Member States for the five nominated films that were selected by a panel of film professionals from across the EU. In the 2024 edition of the Award, more than 700 screenings of the shortlisted films were organised, with debates involving more than 70,000 audience members. The Award is complemented by the Young Talent Programme, which was launched on 16 September 2024, to engage young cinema professionals in the promotion of European values and the LUX Audience Award project.
