Urgent Call for the Release of Georgian Actor Andro Chichinadze
The European Film Academy calls onto the Georgian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release the actor Andro Chichinadze.
Following their participation in public protests, five individuals, among them 28-year-old film and theatre actor Andro Chichinadze, were arrested on 5 November on charges of “organizing, leading, participating in, and publicly calling for violent actions”.
The arrest appears to be part of broader government efforts to suppress peaceful protests and intimidate the public, raising serious concerns about the freedom of expression and the safety of artists in Georgia.
The European Film Academy is worried about the mental and physical well-being of Andro Chichinadze and calls onto the Georgian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release him and we encourage all film and culture institutions around the world to do the same.
